You did warn me carpenter…

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

It is so that my transgressions have born a withered fruit
The sun has scorched the rising plans; alas they have no root
The bleached bones of animals bound by leather strips
Dance through the air with laughter as I wield this wicked whip

As You did warn me carpenter, this world has weakened my heart
So easily I disparage, self-seeking the work of my art
And there You have come to me at the moment I bathe in my sorrow
So in love with myself, sought after avoiding tomorrow

Where do You find the love to offer he who betrays You?
And offer to wash my feet as I offer to disobey You
Your beauty does bereave me, and how my words do fail
So faithfully and dutifully I award you with betrayal

The weak and the down trodden fall on broken legs
As I walk past a smile I cast, fervor in my stead
But my bones like plastic, do buckle backward now
I lay in this field by Judas’ bowels and anticipate the plow

I can not be forgiven; my wages will be paid
For those more lovely and admirable is least among the saved
And where would I fit Jesus? What place is left for me?
The price of atonement is more than I’ve found to offer up as my plea

Jesus my heart is all I have to give to You
So weak and so unworthy this simply will not do
No alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough
For Your body that was broken, how can this be enough?

By me You were abandoned, by me You were betrayed
Yet in your arms and in Your heart forever I have stayed
Your glory illuminates my life, and no darkness will descend
For You have loved me forever, and Your love will never end

Leave behind the chains…

Supertones delivers some awesome ska-punk in this song, and awesome lyrics as usual, Go your way (Here’s the Spotify Link). Crank that volume up to 11 and listen and enjoy.

Not long after my rescue
I let my failures get me down
My sin had robbed me of the joy I had in you
Then you saved me from that too

All I wanna do is talk about Your grace
I don’t wanna go unless I go Your way
Get a little closer to You everyday
I’m gonna turn around and go Your way

What I thought of as my freedom
Was a prison without walls
I held on tightly to the shackles that I hate
But this wasn’t freedom at all

I thought that I’d gone too far
Then I heard You call my name
Return to me child
I am eager to forgive
But leave behind the chains

Live again…

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Well, I was there when you were torn apart
Now a piece of you is gone
Somehow you wish that you could only find
A little strength to carry on
You’ve tried so hard to make it on your own
That your heart has come undone
So I am here to prove that I alone
Have the power to overcome

I didn’t want you to feel this way
It’s not what life was meant to be
And so for you, my friend, I’ll take your shame
You can give it all to me
Because you’ve wrestled demons every day
And they’ve dragged you to your knees
But in your weakness you will learn to find
That I will always be your strength

Don’t let your heart be troubled
This world will never keep you down
It will never keep you down

So rise up, my friend
No, this will never be the end
So rise up, my friend
And live again

In life or in death
Through joy or regret
And all of the secret things you have done
No matter what comes, my friend
Nothing can keep you from the love of God

He will lead you through somehow…

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

You’ve been tossing in your sleep
All the promises you made that you couldn’t keep
And you’re feeling sorry for yourself
Think He’s done with you, had Him on the shelf
And you’re tired of running the race
Straying to and fro, falling on your face
Oh, you want to throw your towel on in
Brother before you do, you better think again

You went wrong, you remember when
Instead of pressing toward the mark you missed it once again
And you think that you’re the only one
Who’s ever come your way and done what you have done
So you try to tuck your tail and run
But then you realize you’re back where you’ve begun
Oh can’t you see Him waiting there for you?
With arms wide open now, wanting to see you through

Never say die, no
You’ve come too far to turn back now
Give it one more try and He’ll help you through
Never say die, no
We are weak but He is strong
and strength He will supply
When you ask Him to

Press on, press on
Keep your hand upon that plow
Press on, press on
And He will lead you through somehow

Ready to start again…

It’s lyrics time. I had hoped I could find this song on either YouTube or Spotify, but no luck. Well, Brave Saint Saturn’s Begin again.

All the pieces hit the ground with a sick sound
Time frames moving in slow motion
Sifting through setting in as the smoke clears
Consequences marching in rotation
Got a feeling that this is gonna bruise
I’m pretty sure this is gonna be costly
Sit down cause there’s nothing left to do
Hands covering your head and you wish you could start again

Colors bleed and they mix into a dull brown
The more you mix, the more it’s getting darker
Heat rises and it leaves behind a luke-warm
Feel it go, feel a heart get harder
Losing something that you said you’d never lose
You trade it in for something that you can’t stand
Let go now there’s nothing left to do
Hands covering your head now you’re ready to start again

A second chance is all you have left
Remember why you cling to this gift
A new day, a new start, the world turns
Sometimes you’ve got to crash before you learn

Fire comes and it burns all the brush away
Rain comes down
Snow falling in a lifeless grey
Sun comes down
Something new comes cautiously from the dust
And spreads its limbs toward the heavens

The rain falls on the righteous and the wicked…

To you who will listen I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your shirt, do not stop him from taking your pants. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full.

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. Because he is good to the ungrateful and wicked. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. There must be no limit to your goodness, as your heavenly Father’s goodness knows no bounds.

Love everyone the same, be equally merciful to everyone, do good to everyone, do not treat anyone diffrently, do not show favoritism, whether they are evil or good, enemy or friend, righteous or unrighteous. This is how you can be merciful, as your Father is merciful. This is how you can be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

A Yoder-inspired minor modification of the parts about loving ones enemies found in Matthew 5 and Luke 6, mostly Luke. Title take from Supertones song Wilderness, that I have posted the video to before.

We shall overcome…

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

A recent robbery of the biggest pentecostal church here in sweden, where two men entered and stole some money, spawned a bunch of questions in my mind.

Considering a part about loving our enemies from Jesus’ most famous sermons. Here is Luke’s version of it.

But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.

Also, what Paul teaches in Romans, which goes really well together. You’d have to wonder if Paul hadn’t atleast been told what Jesus said right?

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him;  if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Obviously the robbers have mistreated the church. There’s no question in that what they did was wrong and unlawful! I would even say that it was evil.

But the question is this: How should we, as christians, as the church, respond to such an offense? How do we overcome the evil they’ve done to us with good?

Do we hand them over to the state, prosecute them, demand our money back, and have them punished for their evil deeds?

Do we follow Jesus’ and Paul’s ideas, and love them unconditionally? Give them more money? Feed them, and give them something to drink? Invite them over for lunch? Take care of their every need so they won’t have to rob anyone ever again? Forgive them, the same way God has forgiven our transgressions?

What foolishness that would be! Everyone would start abusing us christians, if we were that irresponsible with our material things, and handed them over to anyone who demands or asks to have them. We would encourage crime and evil deeds. More churches would be robbed if we gave them free reign like that! What kind of society would that create!

Well, perhaps one where love has overcome evil? Perhaps the one who told us to live like that, can and would take care of the consequences when we do act on his words? Maybe evil would finally be overcome by our foolish goodness?

More about the robbery here, in swedish. Nobody has been arrested yet.

By the way, The O.C. Supertones lent me the title again. I really like their last album (Revenge of the O.C. Supertones). Go and get it and listen to some awesome music.

It only confirms my suspicions…

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

It has already become standard now, to post here once a month, on the last day aswell, and have a song as a theme. Don’t know if it’s a good thing, but I’ll keep doing it that way for now. Might increase the frequency, but I would only it if I have anything to say really. Should be able to come up with something once a month you’d think.

Anyways, I have to admit the last post might have ended in a rather melancholy way. Calling myself a hypocrite, failure, liar and wishing for death might not be the most cheerful or uplifting thing to do. But I’m merely stating facts, we are all sinners, including me. Atleast I believe that is one of the fundamental truths the bible teaches. It is after all a book where most of the characters are either hypocrites, failures, liars, or loosers. As Five Iron Frenzy puts it in “Far Far away”.

Peter was a liar, a traitor just like me,
and Judas was a hypocrite, and Paul a Pharisee.

In a way I feel I touched on the subject in my first post, in the way I explained the whole “In spite of me…” thing. Anyways, back to the DC Talk song. If you hadn’t guessed it already, I was thinking of “In the Light”. Especially two lines from the first verse.

This only serves to confirm my suspicions,
that I’m still a man in need of a Saviour.

I guess I could write alot about this, but there isn’t really much flowing out of me at the moment. As everything I am trying to say is contained within the prayer of the tax collector, in its simple and wonderful form, I will just post it instead of attempting to write an essay. Maybe the essay will come someday. Luke 18:13

God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

And what wonderful mercy He has shown me, and what a awesome Saviour I know in Jesus…
