In attempt at proving myself cooler than I might have been percieved so far, what with only referencing to songs sung by artists that falls into the ”christian” music category, this post will come out of an Audioslave song. Even though I read somewhere that Chris Cornell had turned back to his childhood catholic faith, I doubt most people label them as a “christian” band. Personally I find such excessive categorizing and labeling silly. Their lyrics however, for some songs, can certainly be viewed and interprited in christian ways. Though I’m not going to do that. I’m merely going to use the title of one of them and spin on from there.
The post title is taken from the song with the same name. Here is the chorus.
Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life
Now show me how to live
What Chris has missed here is that our creator, after giving us life, did indeed show us how to live. I believe He did so by becoming one of us. With His life and ministry as a man named Jesus, He gave his disciples instructions, and lived out the life he wishes us to live. A great teacher shows with examples, and the greatest example Jesus left us with is that of the cross. Where He who has everything, gives it all for those that he loves. I said it in my previous post, but I don’t believe it can be said enough, by going the way of the cross, Jesus showed us a better way, showed us how to live.
Now, the world is ofcourse much more complicated than that, and we can’t apply the same way of thinking to every situation, right? If it was the way God decided to use for what would probably be classified as the single most important event in the universe, atleast to christians, how can we deny it’s relevance to our, in comparison, rather small problems and situations?
As part of the now rather famous Kirkengaard quote goes, it here being God’s word.
We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.
Well, I pretend to have reached some intellectual new plateau, having the guts to write about my revelations and epiphanies on a blog even. Perhaps I have realized something, perhaps I’ve understood something, Currently, I believe that would be that I am a hypocrite. I do not act accordingly, not even with what little I have understood. Just so you know, for future reference maybe.
I don’t know if this was so coherent, or well thought through. I blame it on writing while on the road from Kiruna, in the far far north of Sweden. I might edit it later, but I wanted to get something posted while it was still July. Also wanted to post some lyrics from one of my favorite bands aswell, Five Iron Frenzy, taken from the song Eulogy.
If Jesus Christ is true
then I am mostly lies
if Jesus Christ is Love
then I have failed to try
if Jesus Christ is Life
then please just let me die.
